Abstract
The tendency for ventricular septal defects to decrease in size finds its ultimate expression in the phenomenon of complete spontaneous closure. The spontaneous closure may be accomplished ply a number of mechanisms, and the majority of the defects are destined to closure in infancy or early childhood. Infact, spontaneous closure of the. ventricular septal defect appears to be not uncommon and has been estimated to occur in 25 to 45 percent of the defect present during the first few months of life, but there was no reported case of spontaneous closure of the ventricular septal defect in Korea. We have experienced a case, 20 year-old male, of spontaneous closure of the defect whic was diagnosed on the basis f ,cardiac catheterization and dye dilution study at the time of first ad ooission (14 year of -age) in 1964. We present the case with a brief review of pertinent literature.
